40th Anniversary: Founders Celebration
A premier event of the Fortieth Anniversary Celebrations recognized the founders of the
University of Waterloo. Founders are defined, for this purpose, as those members of University of Waterloo Board of Governors during the formative five years, 1957 to 1962. During this time, decisions were taken and plans put in place, that set the direction for what the institution has become.
Companion events marked this celebration:
- Professor Kenneth McLaughlin gave a public lecture ("The Unconventional Founding of an Unconventional University") in the Theatre of the Arts, Modern Language Building on May 27, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m., to which the UW community was be invited.
The slides and audio of this lecture are now available at this site.
- Following the lecture a plaque honouring the Founders was unveiled. The President's Committee held a reception for the Founders and their families.
Photographs from this reception are now available at this site.
