Media Loans & Licensing has acquired Standard Site Licenses with two major distributors of feature films in Canada. The licenses allow for classroom screenings of the feature films for which these companies have the distribution rights. There are TWO exceptions to the licenses. Audio Cine Films represent HBO titles and those titles are NOT included in the Standard Education License and must be licensed separately. Criterion Pictures also has a production group NOT included in their Standard License and that is Mongrel Media titles. Those titles must also be licensed separately. Only commercial copies like rentals from video stores, department store purchase, etc. are to be used under these licenses. Programs and movies copied off air from television are NOT covered.

These agreements apply only to the Faculty of Arts, the School of Architecture, the Faculty of Environmental and the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo. Under the agreements, Media Loans & Licensing must report regularly on all feature films used. It is important that instructors notify the staff in Media Loans & Licensing of all screenings. This will also have a bearing on whether or not the licenses are renewed each year.
