Waterloo LEARN Support

Getting help and training

The Help link in LEARN contains lots of information for Instructors and Students. You can also link to the same help from the menu on the left (Training and Documentation).

If you prefer to learn through hands-on training sessions, check the list of courses offered to help get you started. Again, see the Training and Documentation menu for a link to courses, offered through the Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and IST. You can also talk to your CTE Faculty Liaison about using LEARN and about who in your area is already using it. CTE Liaison contact information is found on the CTE web site, under About CTE, and Who We Are. If you are interested in building an entirely online course, please contact the Centre for Extended Learning (CEL) who also use LEARN for fully online courses.

Support collaboration - technology, pedagogy, online course development

The LEARN system technology is managed by IST, and support of its use is provided through a collaboration between CTE, CEL, and IST. CTE Faculty Liaisons, or CEL staff for fully online courses, provide the first point of contact for faculty members and instructors, with Jan Willwerth or Sean Warren in IST coordinating the next level of technology support and training. Staff in the Faculty Computing offices are kept apprised of the evolving support. For more information on the support in your area, contact your CTE Faculty Liaison.

Governance for the learning environment

Oversight and direction for LEARN and for other aspects for the online learning environment is provided by the campus computing committee, UCIST, with representation from all Faculties, the Teaching Excellence Council, and related support units.

Operational issues, such as system configurations, support problems, and administration of the system are discussed at the Learning Environment Operations group (LEO). LEO membership includes IST, CTE, CEL, and the Library. Significant decisions are brought forward to UCIST as appropriate.
