UW Multimedia Group

Community of Support

Video and audio are rapidly growing mediums for disseminating content via the internet in the academic realm. With this development comes individuals in search of a community of practice and support.

The UW Multimedia Group is a group of people with an interest in multimedia technologies. There is a mutual interest in developing best practices in the areas of recording and production technology, compression and media formats, copyright, accessibility, and the sharing of resources.

The UW Multimedia Group began its meetings with a look at seeing what we have in common both in terms of our interest in, and use of, video. Subsequent meetings included:

A tour of and demonstration of of ML 117 with Professor Jill Tomasson Goodwin on April 24, 2008. This multimedia-capable room is equipped with dual projectors for showing multimedia, a signal switcher, and 20 G4 laptops. Jill covered the room's multimedia features and technology; a bit of history about Arts and digital media; what's next; and answered questions.

A tour of the Office for Persons with Disabilities on June 5, 2008, with Rose Padacz, Director and SusanShifflett, Adaptive Educational Technologist/Advisor. This included a tour of their tech lab and demonstration of some of their technologies and services for persons with disabilities. Kate Hanno, a PHD candidate, demonstrated Job Access with Speech software (JAWS), a screen reader for people with vision impairments and answered questions from the group.
