Videoconferencing and Webcasting

category section banner

ITMS offers several options with regard to videoconferencing and webcasting. Videoconferencing is a set of technologies that enables the collaboration between groups whereas webcasting refers to broadcasting via the internet.

Videoconferencing is commonly used in the academic realm to conduct presentations or interviews and to collaborate on research projects. Webcasts see use in the area of streaming lectures and special presentations where a larger audience needs to be reached. Usually in either case, the lecture or presentation can be archived for viewing at a later time.

The key distinguishing feature is that videoconferencing enables two-way high-quality symmetrical interaction between parties whereas webcasting is a one way streamed internet broadcast.
