Guidelines for unpaid co-op work terms
As a rule, you must receive some substantive remuneration for your co-op work terms. In situations where unpaid positions are accepted for official co-op employment, new, comprehensive guidelines must be adhered to. Please read the complete criteria for determining if your unpaid job can be granted credit (PDF document).
These guidelines are now in effect for all posted and arranged-own off-campus jobs beginning with the May 2011 term and for all on-campus jobs beginning with September 2011 term.
Should you still be looking for employment for the January-April 2012 work term and need clarification on a possible unpaid position, please contact Co-operative Education. If you have previously been employed for a work term, contact your student advisor (the Co-operative Education contact on your JobMine profile). If you are planning for your first work term, you can meet with a career advisor by scheduling an appointment.
