Minutes of OPAC Meeting, January 8th, 1998 Present: Anne Fullerton, Helen Salmon, Deborah Wills (alternate for Diane Wilkins) The OPAC group met on January 8th in order to: 1) Give Anne Fullerton an overview of what work had occurred during the period of her academic leave (November-December). 2) Have a summary of the last University of Waterloo Pilots meeting (held on January 7th). Anne reported that customization of WebVoyage for Event 8 testing was not going forward because of resourcing difficulties amongst Waterloo's IST staff, who had not yet made the changes necessary to giveBill Oldfield access to this client. [This problem has subsequently been resolved by pointing this client to the large TUG test database rather than to the Training database]. 3)To discuss the request from the OPAC training group to suppress the "Keyword Anywhere" mode of searching. The OPAC prototyping group felt that, despite its drawbacks, this mode of searching would likely prove very popular with students. It was decided that Helen would get further clarification on this problem from Carol Goodger-Hill, and recommend that the Training Group post a query to Voyager-L to find out how bad the problem is at other sites, and how other sites have dealt with it. [Carol has subsequently done this] 4) To identify the tasks remaining in order to complete customization of the OPAC, and set completion dates. Tasks remaining are: - Anne will meet with Betty Graf to review what indexes/Marc fields should be associated with the different types of searches available in the OPAC. They will also use a spreadsheet from Rochester detailing their indexing structure. (to be underway or completed by January 19th meeting of the OPAC group) - complete work on WebVoyage to mirror decisions made for the Windows client. (Bill Oldfield has completed most of this work) - look at the results page display, and set sort order by date (followed by sort by title followed by sort by owning library) (to be done at the January 26th meeting) - look at wording of the ASCII error messages, and at the ASCII help text received from the University of Pennsylvania. (Helen and Jan Brett will have this underway or completed by January 19th) - look at all patron information messages (Helen, Jan Brett and Donna Sartori will meet to do this on January 23rd). - updating of Diane Wilkins' "OPAC Decisions to Date" list from early November (to be completed at January 26th OPAC meeting?) - do Event 8 functional testing on all three clients, and a final "proof-reading" of all three clients to identify any last changes that we want to make (these tasks will be the focus of the January 19th OPAC meeting) - meet jointly with the OTIG and OPAC Training groups (last week in January?) to seek feedback about our "final" version of OPAC customization.
