WATERLOO, Ont. -- The University of Waterloo today issued the list of its employees who were paid $100,000 or more in 1999.

(The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act 1996 requires public disclosure of the salary and benefits paid in respect of employment to employees who are paid a salary of $100,000 or more in a year.)

The list contains the names of 150 people at UW including senior administrators, deans and professors. Many are considered international experts in their field of study.

With some 2,750 staff and faculty and about 22,000 students, the research-intensive university is the fourth largest in Ontario and one of the biggest employers in the Waterloo Region.

UW’s annual operating expenditures in 1999 were $308 million and its economic impact in the region is about $350 million. The university is also responsible for scores of spin-off companies contributing many more millions of dollars to the local economies.
