Memo: To University of Waterloo Community

AODA Accessible Customer Service Training Requirements

As many of you are aware, the provincial government enacted the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) with the goal to create an accessible province by 2025. To achieve this goal, a series of Accessibility Standards have been developed.  The standards include: Customer Service, Information & Communication, Transportation, Employment, and the Built Environment.  The first standard, Accessible Customer Service, requires the University to ensure that all faculty, staff and student leaders receive training on ways to extend support to students, alumni and campus visitors with disabilities.

As a University of Waterloo faculty or staff member, you can complete the training in one of two ways:

1) Read the attached COU document, log onto http://aoda.uwaterloo.ca/ and click complete, or

2) Log on to http://aoda.uwaterloo.ca/  enter your user ID and password,  complete the web based training modules during one or several sessions and click confirm to track your completion.

Your participation in this training will be tracked in ELMS and myHRinfo to ensure that the University of Waterloo is in compliance with the requirements of the AODA.  Please note that your personal data will not be shared with anyone beyond the University.

Please ensure that all staff and faculty in your area are aware of this requirement and arrange to take the training as soon as it is convenient to do so in the coming weeks.  All employees whether full-time, part-time or contract are required to take the training prior to January 1, 2012.   If you have any questions, please contact me at  rmpadacz@uwaterloo.ca  or 519-888-4567 ext. 35231 and I will be happy to help you.

Thank you in advance for your support and co-operation.
