Office Support/Receptionist Position

Proctors

Proctors are grad students hired by the Office for Persons with Disabilities (OPD) to supervise the writing of tests and examinations for students registered with the OPD. 

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring student/s during the writing of tests/exams
  • Addressing any student questions/concerns
  • Ensuring that students receive the approved exam accommodations
  • Monitoring time allotments
  • Scribing exams
  • Documenting anomalies with proctor notes
  • Assisting with computer support for students
  • Providing office support
  • Maintaining confidential information

Hours

Morning, afternoon, and evening shifts throughout the term with increased need during the final exam period with Saturday shifts

 

Application Process for Proctor Position

 

RIT Team

Through the Ontario Work Study Plan, the Office for Persons with Disabilities hires students as Research, Information, and Transcription (RIT) assistants. The positions involve assisting with the transcription of written materials into alternate formats (i.e., Braille, audio tape, etc.), library research, editing, adaptive technology training and demonstrations, and other tasks as required. The rate of pay is $10.00 per hour.

Requirements

  • Good keyboarding skills
  • Knowledge of Word and WordPerfect
  • Excellent writing, research, communication and computer skills
  • Ability to read text on to tape
  • Familiarity with the UW Library

Qualifications

  • G class licence
  • First Aid training
  • CPR

Tutors

The Office for Persons with Disabilities (OPD) hires many undergraduate and graduate students from all departments on campus to assist with tutoring. 

The names of accepted “qualified” individuals will be made available to students working through our office. 

Tutoring support may involve:

  • Reviewing course material
  • Explaining concepts in different ways
  • Assisting with assignments and practice questions
  • Editing support
  • Study monitoring


Rate of Pay

  • $13 per hour (undergrad tutors)
  • $15 per hour (graduate tutors)
