Bursary

Bursary for Students With Disabilities (BSWD)

Funding Source :

     The Ministry of Education from both Provincial and Federal sources

Purpose:

  • To complement other funding options
  • To assist with additional academic-related costs including tutors, note takers,  assessments and the purchase of adaptive technology that cannot be funded from other sources

       * Unlike conventional bursaries, the BSWD cannot be used to fund the costs of          tuition, books or living expenses.

Do I have to pay the money back?

No, the BSWD is non-repayable and funds are not considered to be taxable income.

Eligibility Criteria

Students must:

  • Be registered with the Office for Persons with Disabilities (OPD) and demonstrate a disability related need
  • Demonstrate a financial need by applying and being eligible for assistance through the Student Awards Program (i.e., OSAP, OSBP)
  • Not be in default of a student loan and must be in "good" academic standing
  • Complete an application with an OPD advisor during the academic term that they are eligible for student aid (BSWD funds are limited and tied to the academic calendar)
