Inter University Transit System (IUTS)
The Inter University Transit System (IUTS) is
primarily an Inter Library Loan (ILL) book service, operated under the
authority of the Council of Ontario Universities. Books are moved between specific universities
and other specific government/university affiliated organizations, on a daily
basis (Monday – Friday). The service
also allows for the movement of mail between IUTS partners, on a twice a week
shipping schedule (Tuesday and Thursday). The final destination courier service
is being provided by Canpar (Courier).
IUTS items received from Canpar
are sorted by Central Stores at the East Campus Hall (ECH) facility and
injected into the scheduled mail and freight delivery process, daily.
IUTS items shipped from the University of Waterloo
are initially picked up on campus by Central Stores (through scheduled mail and
freight pickup processes), sorted and then consolidated, by destination
location, daily. Central Stores uses web
based shipping tools to process and ship the packages or boxes, using Canpar.
NOTE:
1.
Only books, documents and audio visual
media can be shipped using IUTS.
2.
Packages, boxes or envelopes must be
clearly marked with the letters IUTS (at the top right hand corner), plus show
the senders and the recipients address.

The Quebec group (Crepuq), which represents all of the Quebec partners in IUTS have decided not to continue the current mail delivery process. All Ontario Colleges and Universities have been advised not to use IUTS for Quebec deliveries immediately. The process moving forward will be to send all mail for Quebec institutions via Canada Post mail.
Outbound
items marked as IUTS, but not eligible for the service, will be mailed via
Canada Post and postage charges billed to the sending department.
