Waterloo Aboriginal Education Centre

Aboriginal CentreThe Centre enables St. Paul's to enhance its leadership in Aboriginal education at the University of Waterloo. Using the Centre and working with other partners, St. Paul's will address the three key contributors to high unemployement rates among Aboriginal Canadians:

1. High school completion

2. Post-secondary participation

3. Employment transition

To do this, St. Paul's and its partners will:

- Expand the delivery of existing successful high school retention and post-secondary enrolment preparation programs.

- Expand program evaluation, develop innovations and distribute research knowledge on best practices.

- Conduct academic support programs.

- Partner with the Department of Cooperative Education and Career Servicess at the Unviersity of Waterloo to develop employment preparation and transition programs for Aboriginal learners.

- Deliver an academic program in Indigenous studies that will increase understanding of Aboriginal cultures, phistories, perspectives and values.

Lecture Hall

Lecture hallThe new lecture hall sits below the Waterloo Aboriginal Education Centre and holds up to 250 students. Built to University of Waterloo standards, it features state-of-the-art audio-visual learning technology, including i-Clicker technology, which allows insturctors to run interactive lectures with their students.

The new lecture hall is an outstanding strategic learning asset for St. Paul's and the Faculty of Environment. First-year large classes in Planning, Geography, Environmental Ethics, International Development, Economics and World Religions can now be taught right at St. Paul's!

Reading Room

Reading roomOur students don't spend all of their time studying in their rooms; they use our hallways, Watson's Student Centre and our meeting rooms. They always ask for more space where they can come together to study and socialize. That's what makes St. Paul's special and unique; it is a supportive and friendly community. The mezzanine above what used to the the small library will provide a cozy hang-out that will truly make St. Paul's feel like a home away from home.
