Looking back on their first-year experience, here's what upper-year environment students have to say about the Environment Living-Learning Community.
"The Living-Learning Community is a great way for students to get help with academics and to become better connected with their faculty. It allows them to have a mentor who can offer them guidance from their own experiences at Waterloo and who can help them find the resources which will benefit them the most."
Amanda, 2A - Environment and Resource Studies"I really enjoyed being able to live with people in my own program and faculty. It made it easy to get help with course work and it was nice knowing the people around me were working on the same projects and assignments. By all living together we could all study together and go to class together. It made my first year a lot more special!"
Katie, 3A - Geography"What I liked most about the LLC was that I was living with people who were in my classes, program, and faculty. We all supported each other and there was always someone around for help/advice."
Andrew, 3A - Planning, Co-op"The thing I liked most about the Living-Learning Community was my ability to get academic help on demand from my peer leader, while in residence. This proved to be significantly helpful as it gave me a less hassle prone study environment and enabled me to focus on other components of my academics."
Jomo , 3rd Year - Geography & Aviation
"What I liked best about the Living-Learning Community was that you are able to get help outside of the classroom if needed. The classroom can be really intimidating for some people, especially in first year classes, asking a question with all those people listening can be hard.
Kyle, 2A - Geography and Environmental Management
"The living learning community was a great way to get me thinking about my education in upper years. My peer leader made me aware of different specializations and diplomas that were available to me and helped me get better acquainted with the services and resources offered on campus."
Amanda, 2A - Environment and Resource Studies"I got to know my peers really well and I was much more aware of events going in the faculty. I definitely felt more connected to my program by being part of the ENV-LLC."
Katie, 3A - Geography"What the LLC did for me was support me through all of those "first time" academic things that can be so scary when you're in first year. The LLC gave me a whole community of peers and peer leaders to help me through and I really believe my whole academic career has been more successful because of that."
Andrew, 3A - Planning, Co-op"Uncanny connections and the feeling that I too could become a peer leader. The community renewed a somewhat hidden empowerment within myself and made it active again and has moreover enabled me to want to make that difference as well."
Jomo - 3rd Year Geography & Aviation"The Living-Learning Community served it's purpose as needed and as I expected. I would highly recommend it to any first year Environment students."
Kyle, 2A - Geography and Environmental Management
"I didn't actually know what the LLC was at first. When the option to join was offered on my application to St. Paul's I figured I could always opt out later if it didn't apply to me. Luckily, I found it to be helpful in a lot of ways and haven't regretted becoming a part of my Living Learning Community."
Amanda, 2A - Environment and Resource Studies"I joined the ENV-LLC to make the most out of my first-year experience. Coming from out-of-province I wanted to make sure I lived in a place where I could really get to know my classmates and res-mates."
Katie, 3A - Geography"I chose to be a part of the LLC mainly as a way to get to know people in my program, but the fact that St. Paul's is a 3 minute walk to the EV buildings was a huge attraction as well."
Andrew, 3A - Planning, Co-op"I chose the Living-Learning Community because I wanted to profit on the opportunity of living with the people in my faculty and program, and what better way to build complementary relationships than at home?"
Jomo McCormack, 3rd Year - Geography & Aviation"I choose to be a part of the Living-Learning Community my first year to get to know others in my program and as a safety net for the extra help if I needed it."
