Air Quality

Smog is a serious air quality problem in Canada and in Kitchener-Waterloo. There were 39 air quality alerts in Waterloo Region in 2001 and 2002. Global warming and acid rain are other atmospheric problems created, in part, by automobile emissions. The University is working towards improving air quality and increasing awareness of emissions impacts by encouraging students, faculty and staff to consider walking, cycling or using public transit.

Student projects have included some on and some off campus research. There have been quite a few projects on alternative modes of transportation, such as cycling, which are in the Transportation projects section.
