Quantity:
UW generated 2,963,000 tons of solid waste in 1994.

Composition of Waste:
Waste composition studies have been performed at UW. For one such study the following figures were generated:

  • Food preparation on campus reduced through outside contractors
  • Use of e-mail, newsgroups and World Wide Web
  • Limits on number of election posters used
  • Surplus furniture and equipment sold monthly. See Surplus Stores: A Campus Reuse Centre.
  • Contractors are required to remove all waste
