University of Waterloo
I am a member of the Campus Transit Commission in the Department of Environment and Resource Studies. The Commission is conducting research under the supervision of Professor Jim Robinson, investigating the possibility of a proposed universal bus pass system for students at the university. Previous research has indicated that the many students find public transportation to the university both inconvenient and expensive. The new system would provide inexpensive access to public transit services, increase the service available, and reduce the number of automobiles used to commute to the university. With the costs, both financially and environmentally, of short distance commuting by automobile, the new system would provide cheaper transport and a direction towards sustainability on campus.
We plan to conduct this research as a survey, and ask for your permission to conduct this survey. The questions are very general, i.e. What is your main mode of transport to and from the university?, and students may decline to complete the survey or any questions contained within. Further, all information gathered is purely confidential.
This project has been reviewed and approved for ethics through the Office of Human Research & Animal Care at the University of Waterloo. If you have any questions or concerns about the study, please contact this Office at 888-4567 Ext. 6005.
Thank you in advance for your assistance with this study. If you have any further questions related to this matter, please feel free to contact Professor Jim Robinson at 888-4567 Ext. 2706.
