Abstract

The modes of transportation used by students to travel to and from campus were researched. Every day about 10,000 students travel to campus. On a typical day, a conservative estimate of the number of cars driven to campus is 7000. 41% of students walk to campus, 32% drive, 17% bike, and 8% use buses. Of the drivers 35% live within 2.5 km. of the university, a distance considered reasonable for walking. 70% of the cars driven to UW contained one person. Bus transportation was rarely used because of the amount of time taken to travel short distances.
